GC/HPLC Vial septa selection guide for your process

This article is mostly the guide of GC/HPLC vial septa. Choosing the suitable septum for your application are indispensable factors for the performance and final results of experience.
No matter what kind of application will you do, you should always make sure the characteristic of your solvent, such as chemical compatibility, the operation temperature, sealing property and so on .

Here are some matters classified by the septa type which for your reference.


1.PTFE Septa
Firstly, this kind of material own exceptional solvent resistance, it can resist most of the strong solvent like acid, alkaline,alchohal etc.
Secondly, it’s only suitable for single injection use, however it is not recommended for sample storage before or after injection.
Thirdly, it’s not resealable but the most economical septa for your application.

Lastly, the maximum service temperature is 260°C.


2.PTFE/Silicone Septa
Firstly, the PTFE/Silicone septa highly recommended for multiple injections and sample storage because that it owns excellent resealing capabilities .PTFE chemical resistance until pierced then the septa will have the compatibility of silicone.
Secondly, the septa is Autoclavable and excellent resistance to coring and working temperature bearing ranges from -40°C to 200°C and Used to prevent vacuum from forming inside the vial.
Finally, it’s alternative for you to choose either pre-slit PTFE or silicone Septa, not only the pre-slit septa can protect the needle of your auto sample machine but also improve the efficiency.

Thirdly, it reduces the possibility of coring with blunt tipped needles or for applications using a    thin gauge needle.


3.PTFE/Silicone/PTFE Septa
Firstly, the PTFE/Silicone/PTFE Septa was always been recommended for multiple injections due to the average resealing properties.
Secondly, it was autoclavable to implicate and own extraordinary resistance to coring.
Thirdly, it was recommended for demanding applications such as internal standard, trace analysis or applications where there will be a long time between injections.

The last but not least, working temperature bearing ranges from -40°C to 200°C.
